The term for these images looking similar is called intertexuality. This defines the meaning in a different context. But also connotes representation for the original image. My headline for my magazine was 'The Smiths'. Therefore I needed a image to be similar to this and to be intertexual. The first similarity is a 'Thriller' narrative. The colour theme helps this. The colour is purple and an obvious convention of purple to mysterious and it conventional in thrillers. The two images create narrative and by the posture of the characters and the hands, the purple fits in well with the narrative of the images. The narrative is 'What is going to happen next with this hand'. The purple theme states that there is going to be negative tension due to the thriller convention. If the theme was a brighter colour it would then represent a positive tension. In the mise en scene, the audience could mistake it for a conventional 'Thriller' scene. In the mise en scene there is a wooden background which a hand coming through the doorway, this represents a house, which the audience refers to a 'Horror house'. The costumes in the mise en scene are formally dressed-suits. This is almost breaking a convention and it is almost a binary opposite. I say this because conventional horror scenes contain blood and stained clothing, although the characters being in suits is opposite to a 'thriller' scene. The lighting in the mise en scene extends the narrative. In both images, there is a slight high key lighting on the hand. Lighting on an objects tells the audience what you need to look at, this tells us that the hand is important within the narrative. Also the hand being bright that other objects in the mise en scene, this could represent the hand having a positive tension.
The objective gaze represents narative. The two character are both looking at the hand. Their facial expressions are not scared of frightened, not happy or joyful, but the expression is dull and careless. This is unconventional because usually people would be concerned or scared. Overall this carelessness connotes the posture being slouched, this can break the narrative.
My target audience for my magazine is 18/27. This age is quite mature, maturity represents class. In the mise en scene the suits represent this. Also both the characters hair is slicked back. Conventional teenagers have their hair scruffy. This binary opposite can fit into the target audience range.

These two images are pro-consumerist which represent my magazine. My initial idea for my magazine is to not be purchased to be up to date. My magazine represents lifestyle. music and fashion. The two images mostly represent fashion. When 'The Smiths' released their music, they brought with them their fashion, hence dressing formally when they play live. I want to continue this fashion within the magazine. Taking the intertexual image represented this fashion. The image being better quality is a whole new ideology. This ideology represents bringing the old fashion of 'The Smiths' back to life. Along the music which I personally think represents this fashion of 'The Smiths'.
